Topic: Breeds Club / Who has Bengal Cats?

Hi there Alexalake.  What colors do you have in your cattery. My breeder friend specializes in the brown spotted tabby and brown marbles, she has a few snows marbles show up.  If you have looked at my page, you will see mine are both brown spotted. I think Bengals are the smartest cats I have ever had. Have you shown any of yours?

Is the cat seeing a vet that specializes in felines?  There are vets that treat cats only and I bet that would be your best source.  I hope all goes well.

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / Roommates Cats Sprayed!

Wow! That sounds like a mess. Multiple cat houses usually have someone spray. Since her boys were not fixed you had a double dose it sounds.  I don't know how you are going to get your roommate to leave.

I suggest the kitty that is getting picked on, stay in your room with a cat box and  food/water and the door closed. You may want to keep a couple of your kitties in your room and a couple out in the other part of your place. Possibly there are a couple that get along with the other new cats. You need to keep your cats safe.

If she is not against getting rid a cat or two to a good home, maybe you can advertise online or in the pennysaver for a good home.

Cats are very territorial and those 4 cats invaded the home of the 7 cats. They are not like people just looking a for a place to share.

You also may not have enough cat boxes for that many cats. The experts always recommened 2 for each cat. I have 3 cats and 2 boxes and they seem to do ok,  so 2 per cat is not a hard fast rule, but with that many cats, you may need a couple boxes in each room.

I hope you can work things out. Poor kitties are just doing what comes natural to them. They are not little furry people.

Topic: Health, Diet And Vets / Canadian Cat Food

I know that lots of Bengal Breeders use Royal Canin brand, I do not know personally if that technical precision food is good.  Look at the nutrition label for Nutro Natural, they should have it online here somewhere and then compart it with the nutritional label for Technical Precision food. Things that are important is the amount of protein, higher taurine and lower ash.

Unfortunately my cats are very picky and just because its good for them, doesn't mean they will eat it. I hope you find something soon. I cook up bonless skinless chicken breasts with no seasoning and break it up in bits for the kitties treats.

Topic: General / cat accessories?

Our cats love the cheap little cardboard scratchy boxes, you can get them just about everywhere. They also like the nylon pop up cubes that you velcro together. They run and wrestle thru those things and even take a nap in them. I bought mine at Walmart but I have seen them at Target and Petsmart also and they are also cheap.  They also love to have thier cat trees. I found a great one pretty cheap online from Armarkat, got one of thier montly specials, a nice tall one with 3 pedestals.

When you see all the graphics, many have a website link, so if you click on the graphic it will take you to the site. There on the graphic webpage, there will be a field with the HTML code to be copied, it is usually under each graphic on thier site. You copy the code.

Then on my cat space, when you click on the button to leave a meow, there should be a small title bar at the top of the meow field with HTML. Click on HTML and when that window opens, paste the code you copied from the graphic website and click on submit.

Topic: Support And Suggestions / Guess the Breed

I play the game almost every time I am on here. They make the game from the profile pics that we post of our kitties and what breed we put in our profile. (I had a similar question when I got a lizard pic and that is what they told me here)

I do notice that sometimes the selections are blank. I just hit the reload button on my browser and it skips to the next pic.

I brought a boy cat home that was 1 1/2 years old and I had 2 cats already, brother and sister that were 6 months older than him.

The boys hit it off and are best of friends. The girl wants to donimate both the boys. It took a while before life got tolerable around here. Since yours are soooo young, they may adjust faster.

Most people keep them separate for a few weeks to be sure the new kitty isn't brining something home to make the other one sick, but sounds like  you already brought them both together. We kept the girl separated from the new boy when we were not at home so no one hurt each other.

Also, you said  you just got the one kitten "today" so the little baby needs some time to adjust and figure out where it is. It needs to have a place where it feels safe before its going to be friends. It needs its own litter box and food & water in a separate room from the other kitten until they adjust.

good luck! keep us posted on your space.

At your profile, there should be an option to customize " Background Color | Background Image|

you can either change the color and keep a solid background, or you can choose an image they have here, or upload your own picture.

You have to be a pal with a cat before you can email them.

Bengals are very smart and love to open things. I have to put baby locks on my cabinet doors and my girl Bengal has now figured out how to get some of the drawers open. 2 drawers in the kitchen and the small top drawers on the dresser.

If you try to work on something or put something together, they are right there in the way with thier kitty heads in the way. We have so much fun with them.

tiggr - excellent advice about the crate and that link you added for vet help is great. I didn't even know those groups existed. I'm going to keep that handy in case I run into someone who needs it.

You should get them spayed. Whole cats both female and male spray. They may still do it after they are spayed, but it could also stop it or slow it way down.

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / Driving Me Up The Walls!!

Our cats love the cardboard sratchy boxes you get at the store for cats and we have a couple of cat trees with sisal rope wrapped around them that they love.  Maybe you can find something he enjoys more than the walls and then the walls would be boring. Do you trim his nails? I trim ours about every 10 days or so.

I also bought some spray from petsmart  "No Mark" spray. I would spray it all over the bed after I changed the bedspread.  The spray is suppose to have a pheromone in it that is suppose to help calm the cat and make it not want to spray.  You can also buy the feliway plugs to plug in the wall with a similar effect. They are a little expensive. I used them for a few months after our 3rd cat came into our home, because my girl was freaking out.

If she is having trouble eating, sometime you can buy the little jars of babyfood meat such as chicken or beef, no extra goodies in it and no onion.

You can spoon that onto a plate, just a couple of small spoonsfull to start out.

Dont give her any milk, in many cats it causes them to have diarrea. Makes sure she has fresh water daily. You can also cook some boneless skinless chicken breast - without any seasoning, and break pieces off of it for her.

What size crate do you have her in? She needs to have enough room for her litter box, food/water and a place to sleep.  A large dog crate with the wire sides and top can be found at many stores.

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / Female cat peeing problem

My girl started spraying when she was just a few months old. Her place of choice is on top of our bed. We figured out she only did it when she was upset. For instance, we had company over and she peed on the bed. When she and her brother were small, we would bring them in the bedroom with us and close the door so they would not get into mischeif while we were asleep. One night she didn't want to come to bed so she peed on the bed while we were in it! ugh

I  bought the pad that they sell to put under the sheets on  your bed for kids that wet the bed and sewed some together. i put the layer right under our bedspread so if she sprayed it only got the top layer - which for now is an older quilted bedspread I throw in the wash. She is almost 3 years old now, and she only seems to do this once or twice a year now when something happens.

Topic: Breeds Club / Who has Bengal Cats?

Well, while we wait for more Bengals to post, we can tell you a few things about them that you may not know.

Many Bengals actually like water. Mazi will play in any running water and has actually stood with his front legs up to his chest in the kitchen sink while he fountain was getting washed. They will walk into the dripping shower, they don't like the hard streaming water. They will splash in any standing water and play with it.  Some will tolerate bathing well, but in this house they don't want to be forced to take a bath, they just don't mind getting themselves wet while they are playing.
