TasMania, i bought my cat back to New Zealand with me from London, nearly 6 years ago, she was in the cage for about 34 hours, one thing I was told was not to sedate her as she would wake up mid-flight and panic, so she was fully awake the whole time, and for an old cat (12 years) she travelled really well, it was me who stressed the whole flight, as until I arrived in New Zealand, I didn't even know if she was on the same flight as me (due to a total muck up with vets back in England), when I went over to the pick-up point, there she was, then it was a mad dash over to our next flight. Don't feed him/her the day you fly as less food in their system reduces the need to want to go to the toilet. Also make sure he/she has a decent cage to travel in and throw something they are attached to, like their blanket or a toy, I had a small sheepskin rug (it was small) and that went in her cage.
