Bindi and the Water Cooler
28th June 2005
I came home from work one day not long after I had a water cooler installed. I found a puddle of water in the middle of the kitchen floor with a drowned mouse toy. At first I couldn't work out where the water had come from. I first looked at Bindi's water bowl it was still full, it was then that I looked at the water cooler and the drip tray was full to the brim. It was then that I realised that Bindi had worked out how to use the taps on the water cooler.
To stop Bindi from playing with the taps I wrapped a sheet around the water cooler. When I got to work the next day I emailed the water cooler suppliers and requested some child/cat proof taps. They emailed back saying that they have never heard of a cat doing that before.
The sheet over the water cooler seemed to stop him until....

The 15 litre water bottle is empty!!!! Bindi had a ball emptying 10 litres of water onto the floor which was soaked into the carpet and a floor rug. The sheet was soaking the drip tray was once again full to the brim. There was a huge puddle on the floor, it took six towels to soak up all the water and three heaters to dry the floor and carpet. There was still some water in the cooler I drained this off into a jug because whenever I turned my back Bindi would once again play with the taps. I moved the empty water cooler to a spare room and closed the door.
Once the child/cat proof taps arrived Bindi was stopped, no more coming home to a puddle of water in the middle of the floor, but it doesn't stop Bindi trying.
I can no longer leave a glass of water on the coffee table overnight as Bindi will knock it over.
He likes to pull the plug out when I have a basin full of water in the bathroom.
This is one cat that loves water.
Bindi's First Web Page
Ever since my friend told me she had created a MyDogspace for her Dogs I have been hanging out for the MyCatspace page to come online to create a web page for my first cat Bindi. I have grown up with cats and when I got the chance to have a cat of my own I was over the moon. I didn't realise what an impact he would have on my life the good and the bad.
I love having another heart beat around the house. Coming home from work to a cat rather than a empty house is so nice. It makes up for the sleepless nights when he was a kitten running around the house in the middle of the night playing with toys clawing the couch and meowing at nothing.
I have learnt not to leave anything that I don't won't broken where Bindi could find them. As well as leaving glasses of water on the coffee table because often in the morning they will be found knocked over.
Bindi has the weirdest fascination with water. I tell you about this in another Blog entry
