We were on a weekend getaway in the lake Arrowhead area of Ca., and on a walk, we passed a pet store, and by passed, I mean went in....LOL!! We already had 1 kitty at home, and I had put out the idea of getting him a friend to my husband, and not being a 'cat person', he said no previously. However, this time we were playing w/a bunch of kittens at the pet store that had been left in a box on their doorstep. We played w/them awhile, then went about our day. By mid-afternoon, it was time to start heading for home, and Stu said 'we'd better hurry and stop back at the pet store before they close if we wanna get that kitten', and I was shocked!! We took her, and as she was a newborn, our vet said only bet. 4-6 weeks old, she needed extra care. We took her absolutely EVERYWHERE! To the market, the movies, you name it! She was the baby! Now she's 11, and she's my special girl. She was names Mia, b/c she was very chatty (still is!!) as a kitten, and I'd ask her, "Who's the prettiest baby?" (or something like that), and she enthusiastically belt ot "ME!!", which became Mia.

Miko was orig. called "Suki"; I went to the local shelter about a year after my best friend, Pookie, passed away. I wanted a new friend as diff. from Pookie as possible, and decided of a Siamese or Himalayan. Instead this liitle one found ME! She was crying so lodly and reaching her whole arm out of the cage! It seems she was left by her owner after a move w/her orange brother/littermate, and they were supposed to be adopted together but they finally had to split them up, and she seemed distraught that her brother had been taken that day, and her new situation was very distressing! She's tiny, only 5 lbs., and I had to take her! I changed her name, b/c 'Suki' sounded too much like "Pookie", and I didn't want that association. So she kept her nationality and became Miko, or "The Miko" as she is an empress, really. Now she hardly ever meows, or cries, she's quiet and sweet, and loves to play. She's a Persian/Tortie mix, and she resembles the Koi in my pond! LOL!!

My Molly...what can I say? She 'found' me, too. My husband was on a business trip, and I had been caring for her as a feral stray for a few months by that point (May 2007). Finally got her to eat in proximity to me, and even take food, tentatively, from my hand. I feared for the coyotes eating her, as she was mainly out and about at night, and like a leopard, she lived high up in my olive tree to keep safe---smart girl. I asked around the neighborhood and discovered she'd been left behind when her owners moved house! Geez!! I called Stu in Orlando, and he said to take her in; he meant "so she can be brought to a shelter", but didn't say that, so I had taken her to my vet, found out how young she was, and how healthy (and she left her mark on me by swatting me in the eye for taking her to the 'scary place', and left a scar--almost took my left eye!!). Well, needless to say, by the time Stu came back home, Molly was my new girl! No choice; she was mine. And she saved me in some ways, b/c right after that we decided to divorce, and I needed the special 'care' Molly gave me! She's also a tortie, and does tricks! Plus she sleeps on the pillow next to my head and sometimes places a paw on my forehead, to let me know she's there. She's wonderful!
