Increasing milk production in stray?

Any suggestions? A stray cat wandered in here May 1st. She stayed inside and had four kittens May 2nd. Her teats never got very swollen. I guess she wasn't producing enough milk and one kitten died May 6th.

The mother had one day of diarrhea, but it has stopped. She had been coming inside and eating our cats' canned food for a few days at the end of April. Am now giving her soaked Kitten Chow with a little canned kitten food mashed in. Also an egg yolk a couple of times a day and one lightly cooked egg white per day, both mixed with wet Kitten Chow.

I tried giving a supplemental bottle feeding of KMR formula to kittens, but they put up such a fight I couldn't see how it could be much benefit to them at this time. They do appear to be getting fed, but have to work hard enough that the skin on their noses is one big scab.

RE: increasing lactation in momma cat.

I received one suggestion from "V" that I'm going to start today, May 15th and see how it goes.

"Raspberry tea should help increase her milk production, but you may still have to supplement the kittens with "formula" as well.

For tea: -     steep 2 bags in 1 cup boiling water. Let cool.

Add approx 1 TBSP twice per day to food. Will also help tone the uterus."

Inserting images and animations into your Blog.

I found this out through trial and error, based on the instructions in the Forum about how you're supposed to be able to put images into your comment meows (doesn't work for my meow comments Frown ).

You must upload your images to an online photo sharing & storage site, like photobucket.com (free). View available images, animations (usually GIF files) and save them to your albums.

Then view your images or GIFs online. (I open the image site in one window and MyCatSpace in a separate window.) On Photobucket, I click on Share, then More, then "Get link code", then copy the info that is under "HTML for websites & blogs".

Create or edit your MyCatSpace blog entry. Click HTML (beside smiley icon) to open the edit HTML source editor window.

Create a blank space by hitting Enter where you want to insert your image.

Paste the HTML code from your online image or GIF into the MyCatSpace HTML editing window. Click "Update" at bottom of that window. You should be able to see the image in the blog entry you're working on. If not, try clicking on Preview icon. If it still doesn't work, try it again.

This is the code for the above GIF.

<a href="http://media.photobucket.com/image/spring gif/prestonjjrtr/Funny/thinkspring.gif?o=5" target="_blank"><img src="http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww173/prestonjjrtr/Funny/thinkspring.gif" border="0"></a>

Hope this works for you. It took me a few tries! Smile

Miss Kitty's Vet Visit

Sorry I haven't been visiting much...

Miss Kitty went to the vet yesterday to have her chin bumps looked at. They were large and bleeding a bit. I read that they can be caused by infected teeth. The vet thinks this may be the case, and put her on an antibiotic. The vet thought her teeth looked okay last summer.  She did develop bad breath. I want to get all our cats' teeth cleaned, but we'll have to get a few done at a time. Poor MK has to go back in about 10 days to have her teeth cleaned and probably have some removed. Frown  Thank goodness for Pill Pockets!

I've been busy trying to help mom find and adopt a small dog from a reputable rescue organization here in S-W Ontario. Our last dog was a Pom found by someone and fostered by a rescue organization. He was very nice but probably older than anyone thought. He pretty much ignored the cats, even though Lily tried to get him to play! I think she also misses having a doggie friend. Smile

We hope that spring weather arrives soon as we are all sick of cold, snowy weather - enough already! Yell

Thank you to everyone for comments and sending good wishes our way. I wish the same to you, and apologize because I don't get around to sending out as many as I'd like!

Best wishes & friendly eye squints to all,

Here is a link I found to a large collection of

Feline of Mine

Soft silky fur,
velvet toes
Follows me
wherever I go

Luminous eyes,
large and green
The guardian of
my nighttime dreams

Padded paws,
tiny pink nose
Scratchy wet kisses,
oh no one knows

The joy she brings my
life each day
What comfort I feel
that she came to stay

Curled next to my pillow
Each night while I sleep
Her warmth fills my bed
Purrs rumbling so deep

She turns 'round in a circle
Each night before bed
Flips her tail in my face
And lays down near my head

Gives a lick to my hand
And a kiss to my nose
Snuggles beside me and
Like a light, out she goes

Her whiskers tickle my face
When I wake
Get up and feed me,
For goodness sakes!

She knows what she wants...
So easy to please
Fancy Feast, catnip and
A warm pair of knees

A chair by the screen door
To watch the birds feed...
Pillows on the porch swing
To sleep while I read

No fancy toys for this
Feline of mine--
Her mousie, a necktie
Suit her just fine

A better companion
Won't be found if you try!
When I need a friend
She's always close by.

One Secret to Happiness

One Secret to Happiness

One secret is so simple, yet poses a challenge.

Are you addicted to complaining?

Can you go 21 days without complaining?

Complaining makes you focus on negative things – it makesy you negative and breeds more negativity. Do you associate with complainers?

Complaining is like bad breath – you notice it
if it’s coming out of someone elses’s mouth.

Why try to stop complaining?

"Your thoughts create your world and your words indicate your thoughts. When you eliminate complaining from your life you will enjoy happier relationships, better health and greater prosperity. This simple program helps you set a trap for your own negativity and redirect your mind towards a more positive and rewarding life.

A Complaint Free World, inc. is a non-profit organization which provides Complaint Free purple bracelets and other materials to help people affect positive change in their lives. For more information on the Worldwide Complaint Free movement visit our website at: www.AComplaintFreeWorld.org

We are in the process of creating additional programs for adults and children which support our mission and vision of creating a world of positive cooperation."

Will Bowen figured out he could teach himself to stop complaining.

First he had to become aware of his problem.

"Will Bowen is the Lead Minister of the One Community Spiritual Center in Kansas City, MO. In July 2006 he suggested his congregation use purple bracelets to monitor their success at eradicating complaining from their lives. His idea exploded around the world and nearly 6 million purple Complaint Free bracelets have been sent to people in more than 105 countries."

"If you don’t like something, change it.

If you can’t change it, change your attitude.

Don’t complain."

- Maya Angelou

Keep Seniors & Pets Together

I just learned about this help available to Canadian seniors.

Keeping Seniors & Pets Together

The Silver Paws Project

From the Humane Society of Canada

http://silverpaws.org/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1

The two principal objectives of the Silver Paws project are to stop the killing of adoptable dogs and cats and to provide a lifeline for elderly people and their pets...

Pets contribute to the well being of elderly people. For example, a 1999 Australian study reported dogs and cats saved $AUD 2.227 billion ($CDN 1.848 billion) of current health expenditure in 1994-95. The study found that compared to non-pet owners that people who own pets typically visit the doctor less often and use less medication, have lower cholesterol and lower blood pressure, recover more quickly from illness and surgery, deal better with stressful situations and are less likely to report feeling lonely...

Help Ban Dog and Cat Fur in Canada

Thank you luckylove905 for raising this issue. Although I hope there is more awareness and fewer fur items for sale now that there were in 2006, this problem hasn't been solved yet.

The Humane Society of Canada wants people to contact them if they see fur-covered miniature versions of dogs and cats which ranged in price from $2.99 to $7.99 (US $2.58 to US $6.90).

Part of a HSC article online:

Best Friends Forever: Ban the Use of Dog and Cat Fur Says the HSC,
Dec. 16, 2006 article.

http://www.humanesociety.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=90&Itemid=169

Article gives possible reasons (excuses) for lack of political willpower to deal with this issue and how people can help. If the excuse is there aren't enough people inspecting imported goods, hire and train more! We need more jobs!

From article:

Here’s how you can help with our consumer awareness campaign Best Friends Forever:

  • The best way to make sure your hard earned money doesn't support this cruel trade is to make sure that you and your friends and family don’t buy fur of any kind
  •

  • Many of these items are for sale in variety stores and import stores which are offering a wide range of other goods for sale.  Ask to speak to the store owner or manager and politely tell him/her that until the fur items are removed from their shelves, you and your friends and family will be spending your money someplace else
  •

  • Provide us with the name, address, telephone number and e mail address of any stores where you see these items for sale, so we can follow up with a letter of our own
  •

  • Write to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, House of Commons, Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0A2 and tell him to do the right thing and join other civilized countries in passing a law to ban this cruel trade
  •

Also can see info and join group at http://www.banlegholdtraps.com/

There are a number of petitions on care2.com, but I believe the campaign would be most effective if people wrote letters themselves.

Thank you to all who are helping to raise awareness of this issue.

    PS

Oh no! I have just seen a sponsor's ad on this site advertising fur coats! Anyone know of a campaign to stop it? If we love our own animals... shouldn't we support the humane treatment of all animals?
