Oct 2008

Summer is over, my parents are missing the Obon season.  That's when the local Buddhist temples hold their festivals and there's lots of food and Japanese folk dancing.  Mommy and Daddy always take me to dance practice, although I only go to one festival.  I have my own hapi coat, it's a pink Hello Kitty for the kitty, ha ha.  They bought the smallest size and tailored it for me.  They also like to go to the county fairs, although they missed most of them this year because they are trying to lose some weight.  I'm 11 lbs now, Mommy is making sure I get exercise and stay trim and fit.  I was only 6 lbs when they first adopted me.

It's October now and it's still kinda warm here.  We had a couple of cold nights, so Mommy and Daddy pulled out and washed all the winter blankets (mine too), plus my warm beds.  I was doing pretty good from my last blog entry.  I went for my annual checkup in June and got my shots, no breakouts after going poultry free.  My vet said my teeth looked pretty good (good brushing Mommy).  A couple of days later though, I stopped eating most of my food and was feeling really tired.  Mommy thought my tongue felt hot and took me to the doctor.  My temperature was 104.  I had to take some medicine and started to feel better.  Mommy bought a thermometer to monitor me - yuck.  My temperature went to normal pretty quickly and I was almost back to my old self in a week.  Then a few weeks later, Mommy and Daddy noticed I was licking my paw a lot and later I was holding it up and limping.  My paw pads were swollen and had some discharge coming from between my pad and toe.  I had to see the doctor again (I had a substitute doctor, my regular doctor was at a conference learning new stuff).  He was nice, I had to get my paw shaved and cleaned.  I was still really grumpy when Mommy picked me up.  I got more medicine.  I saw my regular doctor later and got some other medicine and iodine for paw soaking.  I didn't like the medicine or paw soaking, but I just put up with it, since my paw didn't hurt as much and I could put more weight on it.  I was happy when I could run around and climb my cat tree again.   At the end of September, I started to lick my paw again, it was starting to discharge a little again and Mommy and Daddy started to iodine soak my paw again.  I was using clay litter again, so they switched everything back to corn and pine.  My paw has cleared up again and I'm running around like crazy again.

My favorite game is to play hide and seek with Mommy.  She chases me around the house and I hid behind the bed, in the bathtub and under the tables.  I wait 'til she finds me, then I run out and hide somewhere else.  When I'm in the bathtub, I peek over the edge until I see Mommy, then I duck down so she can't see me.  Sometimes, she finds me and runs away.  Then I chase her and try to catch her.  She's not good at hiding like I am, but she tries hard.  I also like it when she tosses my mice at me and I try to catch them.  Halloween is coming up and I got another costume, it's a bee.  Thank goodness it only comes once a year.

April 2008

I'm pretty strong now, I can climb all the way up my cat tree from the bottom.  My parents are proud, although they don't let me climb anything else.  They put stuff on top of things that I'm not supposed to be on.  If I don't see any room, then I don't go on top of it, I'm pretty cautious.  I'm on prescription food right now (duck and pea), which I don't really like.  I'm on a food trial to see if I have food allergies because of my esinophilic granuloma outbreaks.  Mommy doesn't want to put me on regular steroid shots, so she wants to try and change as many things as she can to see if I can get fewer outbreaks.  I got a allergy panel and I was clear for everything but cocklespurs.  I'm different from my cousins, who eat EVERYTHING!  I like to smell and look at what my parents are eating, but I don't want to eat any of it.  I don't like any of the wet food that my mom keeps trying either.

I love to look at the birds outside, I can look at them for hours.  I love to jump in the bathtub too, although one time, I jumped in without noticing that the shower was on and got all wet.  I was running so hard to get out, but the bottom was slippery.  Mom and Dad had to catch me and dry me off.

They let me sleep on the bed with them.  I like to cuddle in the morning, but I learned that it's useless to try to get them to wake up unless that noisy alarm clock goes off.  Then I know that they will wake up soon and give me my morning food.

------------------- Well, now it's near the end of April and Mommy thinks that the duck food is giving me puffy lips.  I had a pouty lower lip and then a swollen upper lip with little white spots.  They went away after Mommy stopped the prescription duck food both times.  I'm eating lamb food now and some fish only wet food.  Mommy is going to keep me off poultry for a while.  My litter got changed too, they are trying some green tea stuff and the "World's best litter" corn stuff.  I don't like them that much because they smell more than my old clay litter, but I don't really have a choice - Mommy's doing "all natural" and "green".  Speaking of green, I can't wait for my cat grass to finish growing.  I love grass!  Mommy grows it in my Sylvester and Tweety container.  It's really hard for me to wait when she grows new grass, but it's delicious.  When I hear her grab the pot, I come running no matter where I am.

October 2007

One day, my mom and dad came home and put me in the bathroom.  I was wondering what was going on.  When they opened the door, I ran out into the living room and there was something new, a big cat tree!  It was so big.  It has a tunnel at the top with a hole that I can look out of and two places to lie down on.  I wanted to go into the tunnel, but I was having a hard time going up the tree.  I can't climb too well because of my thumbs.  I have to be very careful.  Luckily, my parents put my favorite black chair by it, so I can jump from it to the tunnel.  When I was at my auntie's house, I tried to climb her two cat trees, but it was too hard.  I can't move my arms after grabbing the poles, I have to work out some more.  I can jump pretty high though, because I get lots of practice on mom and dad's bed.  I love to jump up and down on the bed when Mommy has the feather toy.  I also love to catch the mouse on the string.  They are taking lots of pictures of me again on the cat tree and stuff.

I like it when we go to Petsmart.  Mommy lets me out of my carrier (I have to wear a harness and leash, which I don't really like, but it's so I won't get lost) and I like to look around.  Before I got my cat tree, Mommy was letting me go on all the cat trees there.  I guess that's how she found out what I liked.  Daddy likes to get fish there.  I like to look at the fish tank sometimes, but it's too high for me to get a real close look.

One weekend, we went on a really long trip.  I had a big tent to stay in when I was in the car.  Sometimes, mommy let me come out with my harness and I got to walk around the back seat while she watched me.  Daddy was driving and I touched his shoulder so I could look where we were going.  We ended up going to some place called Las Vegas.  I got to stay at my uncle's house.  I liked it because it was bigger than my house and I could run around a lot more.

So far, this month has been pretty busy for me, but at least I didn't have to go to the doctor.  I hate getting my temperature taken.  After I got adopted, I had to go to the doctor several times.  I had to get spayed and my parents found out that I had a big sore in my mouth - the doctor had to do a biopsy to find out what it was - esinophilic granuloma and I had to get a couple of shots to make it go away.  I also had an ear problem that my doctor noticed, but that is all better now.  My doctor is pretty cool.  Mommy cleans my ears and brushes my teeth twice a week now, yucky.  I also got a sore on my face and it turned kinda red when I ate some new food.  They had to take me to the emergency room 'cause they got so worried, but I got another shot and I'm fine now.  Hopefully, I will stay healthy for a long long long time.
