My Cats

Birthday: May 16, 1999
Breed: Manx
Size: Medium
Nickname: Jigzy
From: Breeder
Home Date: August 16, 1999
I came into my peoples life from a breeder. I have been a loved housecat until just the other month. My people decided that she wanted to take me to a show since I came from good bloodlines. The first ring I was in I played the role and was awarded second place in a class of 48 cats. After that ring I was finished. I prooved myself and got the ribbon now it was time to go eat. I hissed at everyone to get my point across. I don't know if I'm going to be going to anymore shows and I hear my mom talking about another Cymric that is coming to MY home soon. Maybe she will take him to the shows and leave me to my mousey. I will miss her though. When I hear her car pulling into the driveway no matter what I'm doing I run to the door and greet her. I love my people.
A little about my ancestors:
The Manx is a breed of cats with a naturally occurring mutation of the spine. This mutation shortens the tail, resulting in a range of tail lengths from normal to tailless. Many Manx have a small 'stub' of a tail, but Manx cats are best known as being entirely tailless and is the distinguishing characteristic of the breed.
The Manx breed originated on the Isle of Man (off the coast of Ireland), where they are common. They are an old breed, and tail-less cats were common on the island as long as three hundred years ago. The tail-lessness arises from a genetic mutation that became common on the island. The Manx tail-less gene is dominant; kittens from Manx parents are generally born without any tail. There are different lengths of tails named dimple rumpy or rumpy - no tail whatsoever, riser or rumpy riser - notice a bump when the cat is happy, stumpy - partial tail, more than a 'riser' but less than 'tailed', and a tailed or longy - complete or near complete tail. All of these lengths can be in one litter of kittens! The ideal show cat is the rumpy; the stumpy and tailed Manx do not qualify to be shown.
Thanks for reading about my breed!

After waiting what seemed an eternity little Stormy arrived! Just came home and I already know he loves his belly rubs. We are just starting to get to know each other.
Jigzy is dealing well with the little one. I even caught her giving a little lick to the baby. It's tough keeping each of them away from each others food.
