Well he obviously has a "dogs are inferior" thing going on... You were doing dog things and the kitten wanted to stop you.

So my girl is 2 months old. I have saoft claws on her nails so that they do not hurt. Also if you read her blog you will see I had a biting issue. I would sugest you disiplin him when he does that. We also sometimes " Hiss" at ours like we were another cat to get the point across.

I think it's normal. I did it, too. It's just part of growing up - watch two kittens together. Plus there's that teething issue. And your fingers were moving. Don't worry - just say, "Ow - that hurts!" and look really sad and then walk away to discourage it.

We also suggest distractin him wif a toy. "Redirect his behavior to a more appropriate outlet." Does he like mousies? Fev-ver toys? Crinkle balls? Balls of tin foil or paper? Strings? Wand toys? Find his favorites and, when he attacks you, shout "OW!!!" loud enough to scare him, and distract him with a toy. Mine beans made the mistake of lettin Bonnie use their hands and feet as toys - bad idea. Toys are for playin; hands are for pettin. Good luck!

My Kitten Did that to. Sometimes Kittens Atack because thats how they play with their brothers and sisters. As your kitten gets older he well stop.

Honestly, Bonnie didn't stop... we had her front declawed :-( She's still a very aggressive cat but at least I could stop bleeding! I was so frustrated because when I tried to talk to the vet about Bonnie's aggression, all they could say was, "Awwww what a cute kitten!" and "she'll outgrow it."
I recently read about redirection for cats in the book, "Think Like a Cat". I recommend redirection and vigorous play sessions (15 minutes once or twice a day) with a wand toy or tossed toys. Then he'll (probably) be tired and snuggly.

The kitten might just be bored and a bit frustrated, if they do not get enough play they can seem agressive because they are trying to get out all that pent up engery. I agree with BonnieNVictor, loads of excited play may help the kitten not be so agressive towards you and toys for it to take out its frustration on are always good.
If the kitten doesn't enough stuff to hunt and kill it will seek out whatever moves, including you. You don't have to spend money, just a toilet roll on a peice of string will work to give it something to stalk, bite and pounce on.

I think thats pretty normal for a kitten. It's in their nature to hunt. Like mentioned above, redirect her play to a toy or just stop playing with her when she hurts you. My Rufus used to bite me awake in the morning (not a pleasant way to be woken up!) so i would pick him up and put him out of the room and close the door. He didn't like that and quickly learnt not to bite me (now he just paws at my face, lol) Not saying you did, but please don't consider declawing, this has been proven to be extremely painful for the cat and in most cases causes litter box problems (due to the pain that remains with the cat) and increases biting (as they have no other way to defend themselves). Here in Australia declawing is considered animal cruelty and is illegal.
I have heard of a product called Soft Paws which are little caps for kitty's claws. I've never used them but was thinking of getting some for my kitten too. |
