I have a beautiful 2 1/2 year old ebony female Oriental Shorthair named Mystery. Two weeks ago she stopped eating. We took her to her regular vet who did a blood test and noticed her red blood cells were down to 14% and her liver enzymes were at 999 (the normal is 100 to 200). She then sent us to this animal hospital that did ultrasounds, etc. I went up there and before they would even take her in, I was hit with a $2300 charge. I got to see the Internist there, they took her in. The ultrasound was done and they noticed some blood in her stomach and an abnormality in her liver. They did a blood transfusion and her red blood cells went up. By the way, I told them that I wanted my regular vet to be contacted on any and all procedures, they agreed. So to for me to leave her there I had was given a bill with a low and high estimate of the bill which ranged from $3000+ to $5000. They did an aspiration on her liver and spleen and it came back inconclusive. So I got to take her home until the surgery was scheduled. My bill was over $3500.
I brought her back 4 days later, again, I was given a bill with estimates...same range. The did surgery to get a biopsy on her liver which they were able to get one of the nodules...they actually so many. Oh, the internist did not do the surgery, but one of their top surgeons there. I'm still waiting on the biopsy results this week.
Anyway, she came home Friday and my total bill on those 2 visits was about $8000.
I am in financial desperation now...my mom co-signed one of their care credit cards and my limit is a little over $6500. You should see all the itemized charges. I don't have this kind of money. I put up a Myspace page for Mystery hoping that cat owners out there would donate anything. I don't know if you have access to Myspace, but if you do, everything is on that page including all the bills I received from the hospital (under the pics).
